Clothes for the first months are chosen for how quickly they come off at three in the morning, not for how they look on a hanger. Here you will find bodysuits, sleepsuits, hats, trousers and sets for babies and small children.

How to choose

Sizes follow height in centimetres rather than age. Size 56 usually lasts about a month, while 62 becomes the everyday size from the second month on.

• How many. For the first three months most families manage with 6–8 bodysuits and 4–6 sleepsuits.
• Fastenings. Poppers or a full-length zip make night changes far easier.
• Fabric. Interlock holds its shape; rib stretches more and lasts longer as the baby grows.
• As a gift. Go one size up — 56 often stays unworn.
